Don’t Wear Happy Faces Masks At Work

I see hopeless faces in the back of vans while going to offices. I see bored faces, sitting in front of computers between the cubicles. I hear annoyed voices from the boss’s room screaming on tiny issues. I see long faces driving their cars back to homes. I see eyes with no lights during non-official hours. I don’t know if observing the society in this way is a gift or a curse, that I get to see so many of such faces but what’s even worse, I see souls that are not ready to change. Minds that are afraid of others’ opinion. Ideas chained with doubts.

Human minds are designed to retaliate to change and like to stick to any routine that it once get used to, as the mind has to use so much energy to learn something new and form new neural connections. In addition, our minds have been made quite energy efficient. That is the reason why we see so many people don’t care about changing their boring jobs, profession or even a minor yet pathetic routine. They lie to themselves and try to make calm their own conscience that “it is fine, no need to think odd. The feeling will be settled and gone in few time.”

People want to see the world change but are never ready to change themselves. It is also true that you see the world as you want it to be seen. Why some people always smiling and depict the flare of enthusiasm on their faces when going out to their jobs? Why some people always walk with their chests wide open? Why some people are always ready to take on something new? Why some people are always satisfied and content?

Many of us who have limited scope and exposures regarding respective current professions, education or interests, often undermine their true potentials. A frog residing in a well will never understand how a sea would feel like. People who are brought up like this have been found the worst victims. As whenever they are provided even with much lesser rewards comparative to the standards, they would accept it happily as that might be a big thing from them to deal with. And when they do it, a sense of accomplishment has arisen among their minds. Now that’s one of the worst diseases that a thinking mind could unknowingly get.

Beware of the moment or achievement or compliments that can arise feelings of satisfaction to your future endeavors. The day you start being comfortable with a skill, is the day when your skill will start to deplete. Being satisfied with a skill and not improving is like a talent eating termite. Never stop learning in this fast paced world and never be left out with new experiences that can broaden your vision and goals.

People however, don’t always remember to refresh their current set of skills and position. They live happily in the delusion of their little achievements. But when the day finally comes, when they somehow get to compare their positions with others, they get caught with another crucial disease called “it’s too late now for anything to be done.” The depression phase kicks in, which could make anybody good at nothing.

Similar list of attributes could go one but here the point is to always keep searching for your highest standards whether it be in terms of status, learning, skill, money, fame, recognition, knowledge base etc. Never settle for less than what you deserve. But one must find, and not mistaking in finding what he/she actually deserves. It is never too late to learn something new, to switch a career and to give it all with your heart, to start again, to complete what you left behind.

It also comes down to the choice of the profession. One easy way is what the great Confucius had said, “choose a job that you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” Since, we live in a quite competitive world, a lot of options are not always available to choose from. Therefore, a difficult part is to love what you work. But how do we do that? One way is when you actually get a job, you start researching about its proper purpose, background, dynamics and its need to the organization. Then you might get to know the purpose of your existence in the organization. Might be able to grow and find a way to progress within your field and organization.

Another way is to develop yourself with any skill you want. With any skill that interests you. Utilize your extra-official hours to master a skill not related to your job. Be sure to not to learn a new skill every weak because that’s what kids with no vision do. Take your time, find what do you think about something that you’ll be better at. Painting, sketching, piano, sports, online business, computer programs etc. When you start a research about your interests, it definitely pays off as a boost in related knowledge. And when you’ll have gathered enough knowledge about a particular topic, not soon but surely, you’ll begin to reap its fruits.

Conclusion: If you just being to think about your true potential and what can you do about it and with it, you’ll start to see the same old mornings and evenings differently. They’ll become more brighter, more vivid and intense. You’ll start to have a sense of extra available energy and enthusiasm about your time at work or after the day off.

Don’t just waste your time, brain and life for some work or people that are not meant for you. Never compromise with an average life. Never settle. Don’t be just somebody to your organization. Be the only one for it.
